Bluntly speaking, animecards, itazuraneko, and tatsumoto are almost in the exact same category of primarily shilling free methods and guides. They all three also shill an optional community provided, but no one is giving a stink about that ATM.
The hand-wringing has more to do with the people making those sites and random anons giving unwarranted fucks about which particular sites are "vetted" by DJT, when there is none at all regardless of what is in the OP.
Just use what works for you, don't what doesn't, and hash out the pros and cons of the actual tools/info/content/etc. the site provides when the topic comes up.
