As for why they do it two reasons:>Stops spread of real information
You get buried in the noise.>Demoralizes those spreading real information
If someone doesn't know how high the bot to real user ratio is now they quickly get discouraged. This is where normalfags fall into the social media points game trap. They emulate what they see as popular when really it's just a bunch of bullshit.
It's normal to go hours and sometimes days between getting a reply from a real person. It was always that way. Instant (you)'s, likes, upboats, or whatever type of interaction was always cancer and everyone knew it just turned into a points game. Go read the threads about "karma" systems for BBSs. You know what spawned that shit? A site for pot heads. It's true. It was called overgrow.com
. The admin made a karma system and used to sell it for $50 or some ridiculous price like that. Everyone thought it was annoying and would avoid places that had it installed. People chasing point counts and little stars was already bad enough. Adding good boy points was just going full retard.
Then came slashdot and digg and all the others. Everyone a failure. All killed by the same thing. In time it will ruin society. It already has but soon it'll cause a world war. Billions are going to die all for some fake internet points.
